Morihata Kishu Binchotan Charcoals, 1/4 lb

Made in the Kishu region of Japan since the Edo period, Binchotan charcoal is activated by burning oak branches at extremely high temperatures for several days and then rapidly cooling them. Binchotan charcoal is historically regarded as the highest quality activated charcoal for purifying water and absorbing toxins. Its process of activation carbonizes the structure of the wood, leaving countless microscopic cavities that easily trap unwanted toxins. Its porous nature draws chemicals out of tap water, naturally softening and improving its taste. Beyond purifying water, charcoal can be planted in garden earth to stimulate healthy soil, or added to a hot bath to enhance blood circulation. One gram of Binchotan charcoal has as much surface area as a tennis court.
